Developing a Return to Work Program

Having a return-to-work (RTW) program in place prior to an employee sustaining an injury will help outline the expectations of both the employer and the injured employee.

There are six steps to developing a return-to-work program:

  1. Obtain management support and direction.
  2. Select a workplace RTW Coordinator.
  3. Develop RTW policies and procedures.
  4. Analyze job tasks and physical demands.
  5. Identify RTW options.
  6. Create awareness, conduct training and communicate.
